Rays Hope Opening Day Win Bodes Well for Season
|
Fans of the Tampa Bay Rays who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Tampa Bay win over the visiting Seattle Mariners, 6-2. Chris Sale started for the home team against Blake Snell. Chris Sale earned accolades for his performance. In 7.1 innings, Sale surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 9 and walking 0. He allowed 2 runs. Earning his 1st save of the year was Orion Kerkering.
Had Andrew McCutchen not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, McCutchen hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Rays.
"That's a solid team effort right there," said McCutchen. "Everyone's feeling positive after that win."
